Here are 5 expert tips to help you maximize your BMW’s MPG without sacrificing the drive.

1. Master Your "ECO PRO" Mode

Most modern BMWs (F-series and newer) come equipped with ECO PRO mode. While many drivers stay in "Comfort" by default, ECO PRO isn't just about sluggish throttle response—it’s a sophisticated suite of efficiency tools.

The Benefit: It optimizes the climate control, heated seats, and mirror heating to reduce engine load.
Coasting Function: If you have an automatic transmission, ECO PRO allows the car to "coast" when you lift off the accelerator at highway speeds, effectively decoupling the engine to save fuel.
Pro Tip: Use the Route-Ahead Assistant in your iDrive settings; it uses navigation data to tell you when to lift off the gas before a speed limit change or a downhill grade.

2. Don’t Ignore "Shadow" Maintenance

BMW engines rely on a complex network of sensors to maintain the perfect air-fuel ratio. When these start to fail, they don't always trigger a "Check Engine" light immediately, but they will tank your gas mileage.
